Robert Schaffer

Mr. Schaffer is a registered US patent attorney and represents clients in patent and technology related disputes in the Patent Office, courts and before arbitration panels.

In addition to his litigation practice, Mr. Schaffer has written and prosecuted several hundred patent applications before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (PTO), including applications in optics, encryption, turbines, financial products, surgical devices, software and textile machines.

Mr. Schaffer earned a BS in Engineering from Cornell University and a JD cum laude from New York Law School.

Prior to joining Saito Law Group, Mr. Schaffer served as Counsel at Clifford Chance (formerly Rogers & Wells). Mr. Schaffer started his law practice with the IP Group at Shea & Gould.

Mr. Schaffer is actively involved as an educator serving as a lecturer for PLI’s Patent Bar Review Course and Fundamentals of Patent Prosecution Course. He also has served as a visiting lecturer at the College of Engineering at the University of Illinois.

Prior to becoming an attorney, Mr. Schaffer worked for twelve years as a consultant engineer, primarily in mechanical equipment and hydraulic analysis.
